Herbs of Commerce - 2nd Edition
by Michael McGuffin, John
Kartesz, Albert Leung and Arthur Tucker
Price US $95.00
This book identifies over 1,500 herbs listed by their common
names and Latin names. AHPA published the first edition of
Herbs of Commerce as self-governing guidance in 1992 in
order to reduce confusion associated with labeling of
botanical ingredients. The first edition established a
single "standardized" common name for each of the listed
herbs. The document was incorporated for reference by the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1997 as the agency
initiated rulemaking to implement DSHEA. This revised 2nd
edition published in 2000, was expanded and reorganized so
that over 2,000 plants are now included. The FDA has now
published a direct final rule to incorporate the 2nd edition
of Herbs of Commerce, so that effective January 1, 2006, the
standardized common names in this reference will be required
on dietary supplement labels. |
