When doing our Web survey,
we have noticed at least 80% of the respondents consider
ingredients a very important part of an herbal product.
Justifiably so! After all, if all the labeled
ingredients are not present in a product, how good is it?
Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence with
herbal supplements, especially when companies that market
such products don’t even manufacture their own. We at Earth
Power want to assure you, the educated consumer, that what
you see is what you get in our products. Read the following
to discover the why and how we do it…
Ingredients – Yes! With our products,
what you see on the label is what you get!
At the present time, when you read the herbal
ingredients on a label, it is difficult to tell whether they
are actually present in the product or of good quality.
Unlike pure chemicals, herbs and herbal extracts are not
well defined. In drug and vitamin products, there are
identification standards specified in the United States
Pharmacopoeia/National Formulary (USP/NF), Food Chemical
Codex (FCC), and other official compendia, which
manufacturers of quality products can readily follow. With
herbs, there are no such things, as meaningful standard
setting is still in its infancy.
The complex nature of herbs makes them
difficult to identify. Herbs are comprised of multiple
active components, many of which science has yet to define.
Since herbs are not pure chemicals, one must know how to
correctly identify and extract them. Unfortunately, most
traditional herbs, especially Chinese, cannot be readily
analyzed chemically due to lack of adequate identification
and characterization methods. Commonly used standardization
methods based on chemical markers are only good if the
markers were the only chemicals responsible for the herb’s
total pharmacologic activities, which seldom is the case.
Hence, these currently used methods are not good for
traditional herbal products.
In an effort to improve the quality of herbal
products on the market, we at Earth Power, Inc. through
Phyto-Technologies, our manufacturing and technology
division, have developed an appropriate technology to
correctly identify and characterize herbs for use in
traditional herbal products. This has led to Representative
Botanical Reference/Research Materials (RBRMs™) that are not
only correctly identified, but also representative of the
herbs traditionally known, used and documented. This RBRM
technology is leading the way in improving herbal product
quality by setting the foundation for reproducible and
consistent results in research and manufacturing that
involve traditional herbs, especially Chinese medicines.

high-quality herbal tonic because it is produced based on
this combination of traditional wisdom and appropriate
modern scientific technology, conforming to our principle of
employing science without discarding traditional wisdom.
